#LoveDoesTheUnexpected Opportunity Fund Supports Single Mom

This fall, Chase Oaks Church challenged everyone to think big about creative ways to show others how #LoveDoesTheUnexpected. After receiving some incredible ideas of how to love our community, a few were picked, and people received grants to make them happen. Because of this challenge, the #LoveDoesTheUnexpected Opportunity Fund supported a single mom in a very special way this season.

So, I met Suany through a mentoring program for teen moms. And we just kind of connected and we talked, and we’ve just got to know each other better through that program. So, I was watching a video whenever I was at church one day for the #LoveDoesTheUnexpected Opportunity Fund, and that’s whenever Suany came to mind.

So, Suany is a single mom to three boys. She also is raising her teenage sister because her mother passed away whenever she was younger. So, she just doesn’t have a lot of support.

This is my first apartment and it’s hard because I don’t even know how to do the papers, so this first one, it’s heavy, but it’s good at the same time because I have my babies and I have my sister, too, so it’s good.

She didn’t really have a lot of furniture, and so, we kind of walked in to a bare apartment. They had some folding tables and chairs and one chair in the living room, and that was kind of what it was. And so, I think that for her sons, they were having some struggles getting used to that place whenever it didn’t have couches and a kitchen table and the things that they were used to from before.

It was really exciting to be able to deliver the furniture. She had no idea. She knew that we were coming, and she knew that we had a surprise, but she knew nothing else. So, whenever we knocked on the door, just seeing her face was really exciting because she was just shocked, she didn’t really say much. She was just kind of fighting back tears and really surprised so that was cool to see.

I’m so grateful for people to do this because I really need it. I feel so happy, and I don’t have anything just moving out. I feel so happy and grateful.

It was great because it all fit perfectly. The kitchen table fit perfectly, and the couches and everything was just a great fit. And it really helped it look more homey in there for them.
