Discussion Questions Christmas is right around the corner! What are you looking forward to this Christmas? Is there something you aren’t looking forward to? Jeff made the following statement: “The image of the table is a prominent and powerful one in the Bible to describe our connection to God and each other. God welcomes every one of us, no matter what we’ve done or who we are or aren’t, to come to the table as we are.” What thoughts or feelings arise as you reflect on that statement? Read Acts 2:42-47. The idea of “breaking bread” together was highlighted twice in this passage. What do you see happening to the people in this passage as they broke bread, i.e. shared meals together? What have you seen happen in your life when you share a meal with others? Do you think there’s a difference between sharing a meal at a restaurant vs. sharing a meal in a home? When did you last invite someone to your home for the first time to share a meal? Who was it?What makes it hard to invite people over to share a meal, and what can we do to overcome those hurdles? Is there someone you think God is prompting you to invite over for a meal? Breaking bread also symbolizes the broken body of Jesus Christ on the Cross; it’s a way we can have communion with God and each other. Make plans to take communion together as a group, either at this meeting or the next – perhaps as a part of your Christmas gathering. (You can use any bread and juice, and you can read through 1 Corinthians 11:23-26) Share prayer requests, and then pray for the person(s) God is prompting you to invite over for a meal and/or to sit with us at Christmas service. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.
